The Referee’s Professionalism
THE PROFESSIONALISM OF REFEREES
Wednesday, October 10, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
featuring a presentation by
Mr. Yves DERAINS
Attorney
In the vast majority of cases, the parties awaiting the resolution of disputes involving significant stakes—whether in terms of the amounts at issue or the principles involved—are professionals: businesspeople, company executives, senior government officials, etc. Their counsel is most often selected from the largest international law firms. Are arbitrators also professionals? If so, should we welcome this or regret it? What qualities are required of a professional arbitrator? Beyond the specific activities of certain individuals for whom arbitration is their primary occupation—and while there is undoubtedly a community of arbitration practitioners—is this community sufficiently homogeneous to constitute a profession? Are there requirements to enter it, or written or unwritten rules to remain within it?
As usual, this presentation will be followed by a discussion, after which we’ll get together for drinks.
Participation is free, subject to availability and requires prior registration with the French Arbitration Committee.
Registration must be completed via email by contacting Ms. Aline Cambon: secretariat@cfa-arbitrage.com (mailto:secretariat@cfa-arbitrage.com)
